How much should car detailing cost?
+
In the Buffalo / WNY market, a quality exterior wash & wax typically runs $60–$120, a full interior detail $120–$250, and a complete inside-and-out premium detail $200–$400 depending on vehicle size, condition, and add-ons like pet hair, paint decontamination, or ceramic sealants. Mobile detailers like Sudz & Such usually price in this range because the work is done by hand at your driveway with professional-grade products — not rushed through an assembly-line tunnel.
Is $300 too much for car detailing?
+
Not for a full premium detail. $300 is a fair, common price for a complete interior + exterior detail on a standard sedan or small SUV — including hand wash, decontamination, interior shampoo, leather conditioning, and a protective sealant. If you're paying $300 for just a basic wash and vacuum, that's high. If you're paying $300 for 4–6 hours of hands-on work, decon, and a real sealant, that's right where it should be.
What's the difference between a car wash and detailing?
+
A car wash cleans the surface — soap, rinse, maybe a quick vacuum. Detailing is a deep, methodical restoration. It includes paint decontamination (clay bar / iron remover), hand drying with plush microfiber, interior steam and extraction, leather and plastic conditioning, glass polishing, tire dressing, and a protective layer like wax, sealant, or ceramic coating. A wash takes 10–15 minutes; a detail takes hours.
How do I choose a good car detailer?
+
Look for (1) real before/after photos of their own work — not stock images, (2) clear pricing with what's actually included, (3) certifications or training with reputable product brands, (4) honest reviews on Google or Facebook, and (5) a willingness to walk you through their process. Bonus points if they're insured, use pH-balanced soaps, and protect your paint with two-bucket / foam-cannon methods instead of dirty mitts.
What should be included in a car detail?
+
A proper detail should include: foam pre-wash, two-bucket hand wash, wheel & tire deep clean, paint decontamination (clay/iron), hand dry, full interior vacuum (including under seats), steam clean of vents and crevices, shampoo or extraction of carpets and upholstery, leather cleaning and conditioning, plastic and trim dressing, glass cleaning inside and out, tire shine, and a protective sealant or spray wax on the paint. Anything less is just a wash with extra steps.
